The branch on the left, was broken by a cat. Several branches emerged there. Not much of a callous where I chopped the trunk. This is the only one I have. I haven't done anything but let it grow. But it appears to back bud pretty good. Really hoping it back buds just as good when I chop it again.
I dug this tree out about 6 weeks ago. Took 4 weeks for buds to appear. Freebie on Craigslist. Last picture, where the lizard is at, is a new bud popping. Hoping for another bud higher up. But this will do if not. I'm amazed at the healing calluses already. These trees are trully indestructible...
Doing pretty good. It died back some. Removed what died back a few months ago. I took the concave cutters to it a little bit today. It's putting out aerial roots in the back and on top of the scar. I'll do a little carving when I get a chance. I'm just letting it grow for now.
Thanks SU2. I drill about 20+ 3/8" holes in the bottom. It's a basic potting mix. Dries out fairly fast. Not sure about cambium on either side yet. Lots of small branches/twigs above the saw mark. Nothing below it. I've only had one other of these. It croaked. Too much shade and lots of rain...
My girlfriend's parents are redoing their landscape and no longer wanted this tree. So I grabbed the shovel and dug it out. Wrapped up the roots and purchased a concrete mixing tub. Got home and planted it immediately. It looked a little droopy yesterday but responded well to watering. Their...
Looking good. I have about 15 I started last year. They're just now pushing new growth. It was my first attempt. They really didn't do much last year. I guess they were just growing roots. I repotted them a couple weeks ago and they've responded well. Can't wait to see them in three more years...
Here's mine. I picked it up three weeks ago. I immediately removed it from the glued rocks and planted it in a strainer. It's responded very well. It's loaded with new leaves. I'll air layer the top off in a couple years. I'm only interested in the first few inches. It should fatten up nicely.
Here's one I picked up today. $9. Lots of branching to work with. Not sure of the direction I'm gonna go with it.
I've never had a Nana before. This is the first I've seen that I actually liked. Trunk is about 2". Not much movement down low on the trunk, but eh. I'm excited to work with it.
I found this tree buried in the back of a mom and pop nursery. Paid $12. I felt like I was stealing it. I'm still deciding on an overall height. There are a lot of aerial roots on the upper sections of the branches. Not sure if I want to lose those. Thinking I'll keep them.
Hoping to get it...
It's pretty small. I'll bring some tools though. I became fascinated by stranglers while living in Maui. The Charles Lindbergh grave is loaded with them. I'd never seen/noticed them until then. I took a large cutting of one in a park there. I put it under lights and it thrived. I ended up having...
I'll enter the bougie I picked up last weekend. Not sure what happened to the one branch. Maybe nursery tape choked it, fell off and then the branch swole? Also had reverse taper. I cut off the swollen branch and chopped where the reverse taper was on the trunk. Trimmed the branches back as...
I merely dusted them off as I had out of the pot. Most of the soil went underneath the roots to lift it up a few inches. The rest was just tucked down the sides. Nights are in the mid 60's and days are in the mid 80's for a while. Should be fine.
Picked up yesterday at a local nursery. Good price $14. I just teased the roots a little, replaced some soil, and gave it a prune. Hopefully gets some wiring done next weekend. Deciding on a front still.
I usually leave the bag on for a month or so on larger cuttings. Then I cut vent holes and slowly make them larger over the next couple of weeks. Seems to work really good for me.
