Doing fine mate. It didn't enjoy the heavy long cold snap we had at the end of spring, lost a small branch, but theres too many long term. How's that funky Barberry? Done anything with it or growing?

Salix Caprea. Collected as a blank stump. 2 years, 2 stylings, fair bit of Dremel work, a few silhouette trims and partial defoliation. Fast, fun tree 😁

Latest tidy up and wire for this one:

Hi! Sorry I do seem to spend my time on the UK pages nowadays. Silver leaf will enter from any wounds from spores in the air, generally from life size other Prunus. These are not active in the summer months so pruning is safest then. Sealing any cuts would cut risk down if there is silver leaf...

There fairly terminator trees mate. Not quite privet, but not far off😉 Just keep it wet in the summer.

Here's where I went with one of the hawthorn. Branching removed and carved to the new trunk line. Only have a movie clip of the the carve, but can take a photo if anyone's that interested.

Yeah you'd go hard if it's wanting to go and your wanting to create options. Aggressive in the same way on a developing juniper will sprout all sorts of crap everywhere. Wasted growth when it's further along.

Pruning over normal limits, which you'd normally stick to to avoid too much juvenile growth, in favour of back budding I'd have thought bud.

Not too much new this year 😉.. 3 trunk hawthorn. A little Ash that was growing in basically rock and water. And a large larch. We'll see if the larch pulls through, as the bigger they are, the higher the fail rate. A big old Potentilla, garden collect. And while these are established...

Two near snaps on that one so it had to stay there 😋

Moving on with the crab. After works today.

Took two evenings to wire it up, carefully dodging the flower buds. Was leaving it, but had wired a small one and the branching had so much more give than they normally do. If it works out (a friend had warned he had experienced die back from wiring at this time) I can catch it a little earlier...

Flower show incoming 😁 looks like another good one.

That's now the new trunk section.. and the secondary branches are now the start of the main branches..
