    Ficus twins

It does have nice branches though like @sorce suggested grafting is also a good quick way to add the right size branches where you want them. Either in addition to or in place of the existing ones.

Do you mean like a hard chop?

    Ficus

I wouldn't go smaller than 3mm on them. Here is a good article illustrating soil size if you haven't seen it yet: https://www.bonsaijack.com/blog/selecting-the-proper-sized-aggregate-for-your-bonsai-tree-soil/ Sorry the measurements aren't metric as it's an American post

    Ficus twins

Congrats man and what a find! 🤘 As for styling direction this tree is a tough one. You could shorten it a bit and make it stockier. But it's hard without seeing other angles of the tree...maybe shorten one of the trunks a bit, so it's not so "parallel" looking! Nice to have that rooftop...

    Ficus

The Bonsai Zone! 😁 You're right you should sift both too small and too large. Particle size will also depend in the size of the tree though also. Smaller trees smaller particles and vice versa. Although I've seen most of his videos I don't remember that one so can't say why he only sifted...

Any ideas on how to 'repair' ugly horizontal scar on ficus?

:p I saw this too after seeing the close up picture I posted I got this as a franken tree of sorts to propogate from as it's ugly as sin. That's not a bad spot!

    Little Spekboom... then and now.

Dude it's looking awesome! Great progress with it and that pot is a serious match! I've got a heat pump too and man what a half assed invention. Lol! We've got a few more nights in the 20s/30s but next week it's on!! Do you put this one outside same time as your other trees or does it...

Any ideas on how to 'repair' ugly horizontal scar on ficus?

It does! You can see two the two lines here. Funny bc I got it to airlayer it pretty much at that top scar under the skinny front branch

    Ficus

Bingo! But the soil convos can be entertaining lol. I use lava, pumice and pinebark

Any ideas on how to 'repair' ugly horizontal scar on ficus?

I bought a mallsai once, same scar and there was indeed a rusty wire in there. Mine was grown at Costa Farms in FL. Are they girdling the trunks ? Curious as to why

    Ficus

😁 well I don't want to start a soil war!! Haha! Ficus and other trees can grow equally well in different types of soil. Environment, climate, watering habits etc. All play a role besides species requirements in whether a soil will work for you or not. Best bet is ask a local Bonsai club or...

    Ficus

I love ficus! If you're going to "up pot" them then you're not really repotting, won't be so hard on the tree. If you don't remove tons of roots and just gently rake and wash the muck off you can do it now.
