So what is POTS and what was POTS?

When I was 1st asked to make a bonsai pot I went to a local club sale to look and feel their pottery, very different from the cactus and succulent containers I was accustomed to. Pots were subtle, both in shape and color. I've been to various shows to examine plant/pot combinations and I still...

    A few white pots

I like the rusty white interior of the pot 4, I'm guessing it's due to the thinner application and a bit of crawling. The cracked square is a beauty.

    A few yellow pots

Paul, Pots look great, like the shape of #2 best. What are you using for lights and their position? Could also be the white balance within the camera producing the off color, shutter speed can also effect this. I use Day Light Color Fluorescent bulbs with the camera's white balance on...

    A few yellow pots

Love that burnt yellow on #4. The last 2 pots, the 1st one looks off white (probabaly due to lighting), the 2nd has a slight yellow tinge to it. Pots themselves are too perfect looking for me ;o)

Some new pots for your consideration

That oxide engobe is nice, love that matte sheen I haven't made many but big pots do sell, if someone has something to put in it they'll pay. For now large containers are by commission unless I making them for myself.

    slump/hump & clay?

Thanks gary. I've done that, welded a pot to the shelves a few times. Even in a controlled electric enviroment (what I use), too thick of an application or too hot and the glaze runs. Ahhh...to have a pug mill...one day...I've tried mixing my own clay body as well, even small amounts (less...

    slump/hump & clay?

I refired a few pots last week using cone 10 clay. Did the normal bisque, then stained and fired to cone 5, glazed and took it to cone 8. The reason I fired twice is I didn't want the stain to bleed into the glaze. The problem with refiring is the glaze doesn't want to adhere to the partially...

Hey Bill, Thanks! Susan and I are good friends, attended one of her workshops here in 2001 and have been friends ever since. She has an awesome collection of bonsai'd succulents. Something about C&S that attracts us... Klytus, You are correct, it is Tephrocactus geometricus from Bolivia. This...

rockm, Thank you for the input, helps greatly when making bonsai containers. I like the drainage remarks especially, was not aware of that. The pot you speak of is not for a tree, it's for a cactus. It was made to the client's specifications, the plant is wide (20") and narrow (10")...
