New pots by Ashley Keller Art

Thank you so much. If I can make any suggestion to an aspiring ceramic artist, keep progress photos as you go. You will be amazed how quickly your work will evolve. I look back at what I was making, even only a year ago, and it is incredible how much my work has changed.

New pots by Ashley Keller Art

Hi everyone! It has been awhile since I posted, so I thought to share an update on some of my recent work that is currently available for sale. I have been experimenting with a Japanese "mishima" style carving technique to create very fine line-work that is combined with hand-painting on the...

    New June pots listed

From what I understand the cone level is less important than the amount of moisture absorption when discussing if a pot is frost proof. I only use high quality, commercial stoneware clays with an absorption rate of 2-3% depending on the clay body. In this Bonsai Nut forum thread there's a...

    New June pots listed

Hi there! All of my bonsai pots are individually signed and numbered (except for some of the very small kusamono accent containers but this is noted in their descriptions). My work is high fired to Cone 6 which is approximately 2250 degrees Fahrenheit. I've written a little page on the details...

Introducing myself and my bonsai pottery

Yes, mixed with a bit of water and rubbed on and then the excess is wiped off. Rivets are a little tricky and can be time consuming. I made a tool out of a cylinder of wet clay for the size rivet that I wanted and poked a half-circle hole into one end using a chopstick to create the spherical...

This is great insight into the functional use behind cloud feet, thank you for taking the time to share this. I have found it pretty difficult to find extensive information on bonsai pottery and this community has already provided several resources and really great feedback so just wanted to say...

Introducing myself and my bonsai pottery

Hi there! This style is made from a dark grey stoneware clay which is first bisque fired and then hand rubbed with black iron oxide while it is still very porous. After that it is high-fired to become fully vitrified.

Introducing myself and my bonsai pottery

Yes, absolutely. I will actually be posting a couple of new rectangles in a few hours and plan to make several more soon.

Introducing myself and my bonsai pottery

Yes, I personally really appreciate simple, unglazed pieces like this and have a few coming out soon in about this colour. A note on handling extreme cold - stoneware pottery that becomes vitrified through proper high temperature firing is frost resistant however it should still be noted that...

Introducing myself and my bonsai pottery

The comments on cloud feet and proportions are very interesting. I don't disagree but thought I would share a few examples from other potters that I was drawing inspiration from. I look forward to trying some different styles based on everyone's feedback and sharing them with you soon. Thomas...
