I was barely able to get movement in the trunk so I added another spruce. I think a third one might be nice if I can find a small one. I've got it positioned weird and the pot is probably too shallow. I also have done the world's ugliest wiring. not sure where I'll go from here

thank you, I'm expecting some real growth this spring. I'm not sure what you mean by outside belly. I don't want to compromise the nice fissures bark

Thank you. I was originally going to have Bjorn style it. I decided to try it on my own... I'm sure he would have done better, but I'm happy with where it is right now.

Here is where we are today with this yamadori Douglas Fir tree. I'm still searching for a perfect pot. right now I have it in this plastic pot. This is, I think, the front

here is where we are today. some light wire so the foliage doesn't weep the top had been removed in early spring whe. I accidentally broke it. I think it could go even shorter in the future. I feel some would have made this a cascade or semi-cascade. Also, there is probably a better front...

I got a bit more growth this year than last. I've been fertilizing heavier this year and it's putting out way more buds than it did previously. Some branch tips have six or more buds forming. Hopefully this means good vigor for next spring. I wonder if I should pinch new growth if that turns out...

I made some adjustments. I made sure not to disturb the roots, just changed planting angle and removed a couple branches

I have to ask, where can I find a pot like this?? I would need it to be 18 to 21 inches to look like the one you have here. there just isn't a lot available online in that size range unless I just don't know where to look

you're absolutely right. I like it leaning over, like in your second image but probably your first image is more appropriate for this tree. I like the pot you put it in. I'll pot it more upright in the spring. yes, I agree. I originally just wanted to shorten it and make it look dramatic. I...

update. considered a semi-cascade but the tree is so heavy that it would need a different pot shape with more stability. I also considered having a bonsai-professional design it for me... I just feel like I won't like it if I don't do it myself, for better or worse. I would love to get opinions...

so, a few things I'll note, since you asked I have removed much of the ramification and secondary branching in favor of taper and structure. I'm often bothered by trees with branches that don't taper and that is my taste, for better or worse. I never liked the surface roots on this tree so...

Update I chewed off a bit more of the dead wood, repotted the tree, and sorted out some of the roots. it's a strong tree and I have no doubt that it will tolerate this. The last image are some root cuttings from the same plant that seem to be doing well. still not entirely sure how I want it...

when you say "Peter's" do you mean the 20-20-20 stuff? I do feel that I'm not feeding any of my trees enough... I have it planted in pumice and akadama. I would need a very large anderson flat if this were going into one. like 30 inches across! do they make those?

Update The tree has put on some new growth but is still weak. I'm feeding with Biogold and it gets full sun. I have only removed one branch so far. I'd like to repot it to get a look at the base and also remove the remaining field-soil. I'd like to cut off most of the upper branches too. I know...

thanks. It's probably from leaving it outside all winter I assume... this is the first year it's spending winter in a garage so hopefully no dieback. idk how to keep the deer from biting into it tho

Collected sub alpine fir, triple trunk design.

I love the triple-trunk form of this tree. very natural and graceful. reminds me of a real tree, more than most. I wish I lived anywhere near where trees like this are collected

Thank you for this.. I trust what you say. I have not wired the first right branch because it is weak and produced no buds last year. the lowest growth i originally left in case the top died back. now I just think its for health. I really appreciate that. I never thought it would look this good...
