    Mid-American Bonsai Show

I usually end up buying at least one starter from Meehans. I am really interested to see some of Ron Langs pottery. I am going to try to get there early fri or sat morning before work. Its perfect how this comes a week before my birthday and two weeks before my anniversary. That way wife can't...

    Would you buy a pot?

I would definetely buy a pot from an ex-con or a convict. I am really into corrections. If the offfender was incarcerated at the time he was making/selling pottery I would only purchase if money was going to victims families or to pay for the cost of incaceration.

Since I'm ruining this site all by myself...

I am sure I would like any of those trees. I don't have a well grown collection and those would be wonderful. In the midwest we don't have a wonderful sellection of yamadori.

    Sub-Alpine Fir Ugly duckling

Maybe I am a fan of uglieness but I don't think its that bad. Its a shame about the fir blight that will really change the scenery in the northwest. Have anyone researched this diseaese and found any causes. I would like to see some more views from different sides. It looks like there could be a...

    small display suggestions

I can't say I know any of the rules but inthe first picture I think there is too much stone/pottery. I like the second one the best. I wonder how it would look with a wood slab under it.

    Cornus Kousa any thoughts ?

Went out to Home Depot and found a Cornus Kousa. Does anyone have any thoughts on this species. I liked the nebari and the trunk thickness in relation to where the final height of the tree is planned. I did not find much with a search, but thought some one might know something. Thanks

    larch as bonsai

I know this may seem like a dumb question to many but does anyone know if larch is a good species as bonsai in the Chicago area. I think it would be okay in winter but we can get steamy in summer.

    display for discussion

I think whats wonderful about this is that you took the time to put it together and to show it all to us. Thank you for sharing. I can't say much about the display rules because I have never put one together myself. Its a area I would like to know more about.

    Amur Maple questions?

I agree with it needs to thicken but I like the deep serration in the leaves of your tree.

    Penjing

Well I do like it but thats only my two cents and that won't get you much these days. I like penjing with maybe a little more decoration. Maybe a small junk in what I assume would be the water portion of the marble base. I would like to see pictures from a few different angles.

    It's been a while...

Very nice work, I like the rectangle. You don't see many rectangle pots that are hand made. Do they crack easier ?

Nice pictures this tree is leggy are you thinking of cutting back next year, to get more back budding?

    yamadori larch

I would like to see a picture looking at the soil level. How is the nebari? I would love a larch but I don't know if it gets too hot and humid in Chicago for them. Anyone know how far south they can survive?

    Formal display for discussion

I think John Naka said make displays that evoke something from the American perspective. I think this is definetely that kind of display and I like that very much.

    Formal display for discussion V

I dont like when the bonsai or the scroll overlap each other.

    Formal display for discussion III

I think the scroll is too large. It takes up too much of the negative space. In my opinion the scroll is not evocative unless you can read the characters. It also looks like a mallsai decoration.
