    sick chinese elm

My chinese elm has a yellow/white foam oozing out in three spots. The bark is wet looking even though it has not been watered. Can anyone confirm the illness and tell me how to treat. I've never seen this before. It had some ants so I did a quick repot without cutting any roots. I did spray the...

    New Trident Maple

Thanks guys. The picture shows a lot of reverse taper due to a branch but it's very slight in person, easily corrected without trunk chopping. I have a trident with a dome top so I was looking for something different. She already has a sibling too ;)

    Time to transplant JBP?

Newly repotted trees should not freeze. Repot only if you can keep them above 32. Also not a good idea to let them freeze with wire on them. Tim

    Shohin Shimp

I just bought this shohin from Colin Lewis and thought I would share. Although it's a young tree Colin did a great job making it look older and refined. I really like the snake like shape of the trunk and the nice shari work. It stands 7.5" with a 3/4" trunk. Tim

    Buying trees from pictures........

I'm in the same boat as Harry. I buy most of my trees online by picture only. I have never bought a tree I didn't like once I recieved it. I just bought a nishiki from Mark at The Growing Grounds with only one picture from the front. If you buy from someone who knows bonsai you can pretty much...

    Candle pruning

Wo.. slow down here. Harry gave you great instructions for white pine maybe, not black pine. DO NOT cut the strongest first. The weaker areas/branches need a head start. Start with your weaker buds/branches that need to be removed then work toward the apex. A two week lag time from bottom...
