My ongoing war with the V.C. rages on.

Glue traps all around the tree will catch anything, rodent or insect and not poison the area. I had something eating bark on a maple last year and glue traps caught two voles, that ended the problem. Good luck, Bob O

    Sunny Escambron

That is a great start and with their rapid growth rate it should develope relatively fast in your climate. I will be keepimg mine in my greenhouse with my other tropical bonsai but I have been advised to keep it on a seed mat because they don't like "cold feet". Bob O

    Escambron

Great potential! The only thing I know about their culture is they like full sun and don't like to be dry. Bob O

    Worm

For what its worth. If you want to drive the worm out of the pot simply immerse the pot in water. It will come out to avoid drowning. Hope this helps, Bob O

Disposable Protective Gear for Spraying & ZeroTol

Good for you! As a safety professional I encourage every one to choose the proper PPE for any task. As mentioned above be sure to get a Safety Data Sheet for any chemical that you use and read it in detail. Section eight of the Safety Data Sheet will tell you what PPE you need to use but...

    Local Pine ID

Hey Joe, Virginia pine are, in my opinion, under utilized for bonsai here on the east coast. I have one I collected a few years ago, it was growing in solid clay and was so starved for nutrients that it was dying and what foliage was on it was lemon yellow. I have done no styling to it...

John Naka repotting Goshin in 1995

I believe the last time I saw John was again at the National Arboretum in 2001. Again he greeted me like a long lost friend and this time grabbed my hand and led me to look at some bonsai that he wanted to show me. Everywhere that he went that day he had an entourage in tow. He loved to share...

John Naka repotting Goshin in 1995

Jarrod, Thanks for posting this. It brought back memories. I started with bonsai in 92, my first bonsai book was Bonsai Techniques I by John Naka. My first visit to the National Arbouretum was in 95 and I walked up to this group just as the were setting Goshin back on its display table...

    Using Cut Paste?

Thats the kind I use. I take a little dab on my finger & coat the edges of the cut. Pay attention to Judy's advise about the edges of the cut bark being smooth, ragged cuts don't heal well. Bob O
