    gunk remover

Bonsai4me has an article about Armillatox Cleaner. It is advertised as a driveway and patio cleaner but they claim they use it on their bonsai trees to remove the green algae on the trunk, and also as a general fungicide. I can find nowhere in the US that it is available, only in the UK...

I almost threw this away 2 years ago when the bark split, I guess from not giving it winter protection. IMG_1770_edited-1 by cubbie posted Aug 1, 2015 at 2:00 PM

    autopsy inconclusive...

at least Death Valley has dry heat. I live in central florida, and this has been the hottest spring I can remember. humidity approaching 100% most of the time. this is why i'm guessing at heat stress. the trees have been in their spring grow-like-crazy mad rush, probably overwhelming...

    autopsy inconclusive...

have lost one more tree, a rosemary. I have come to the conclusion that it was heat stress. we have had an unusually HOT spring, these trees were in pretty shallow pots. I did not find any evidence of borers, but there were no seemingly healthy root tips. guess my trees needed an A/C.

    autopsy inconclusive...

I think there may be a serial killer attacking my trees. The same thing happens.... all is well, healthy and thriving, not recently repotted, no visible pests. then, overnight, all leaves drooping which rapidly progresses to all leaves dying. then the tree dies, within several days...

    Brazilian Rain Tree Male?Female?

I've had my BRT in a bonsai pot for over 20 years.... lots of thorns! Every few years it has a few flowers on it, this year there were 3 or 4 seed pods. There is no other BRT here, so really doubt the need for male/female cross fertilization. guess they are bi-sexual????

    Somewhat new to Bonsai.

just how much soil do you need, anyway? it's alot of trouble making a good mix, and hardly worth it (in my opinion) unless you need a ton of the stuff. Eric Wigert sells his mix on-line, and he will ship it to you. This is how i get my mix, unless i am planning a trip down there...

there are lots of clubs in your area. Eric Wigert's is in North Fort Myers, and I only use his pre-mixed soilless, always good luck with it. Eric also has beginner's classes and a great nursery. he is on the internet and on facebook. www.wigertsbonsai.com also, make plans to attend...
