you cant physically show string theory. does that make the physicist that contrived such theory less of a genious? Not to offend anybody, but perhaps those physicists had "branes" (and perhaps they could spell, genius) :D

Help Me Pick A Starter Tree! (with pics)

This is an interesting subject, but perhaps not in the way you intended. Maybe we should go on a bonsai hunt? It could be a fun challenge - give us a budget and we will have a fun contest to find the BEST TREE anywhere on the planet for the money. Who knows? Maybe someone on this site might have...

    A new off-topic Forum?

Finally! I thought you'd never notice. A lot of the exciting bonsai chatter seems to have gone silent leaving behind a lot political vitriol. Wouldn't it be great to just talk trees?

    ****The Well****

Nicely put Jason. I've hung out with Walter, didn't hear a single derogatory remark from him. And his skills are exceptional. He would be fabulous to learn from.

    Silver Maple

apologise in advance and do not mean to hijack this thread - on the subject of big leaves, has anybody ever tried dogwoood? saw a beauty that was horribly root bound and the leaves did seem much smaller.

    Juniper styling

More opinions = more food for thought and I love it. Thank you all for your advice. I think I'm going to sit out this spring with regular fertilising and no pruning. Come summer, if the tree is healthy yet, I will get on the power fert and do some light pruning. It survived complete neglect in...

    Juniper styling

I'm beginning to feel like I was a little hasty with the roots but this tree was so horribly neglected that the root ball was like cement. Something had to be done. I'm hoping that between the pumice and the Anderson Flat, the juniper will grow beautiful roots. JKL, I can probably bring the...

    Juniper styling

I need to force myself to have the patience! I promise not to touch this tree for the rest of this year. Water and lots of fertilising perhaps? Any suggestions with the feeding regime? I will come back with this next year though. I hope you will have some advice for me regarding styling, all...

    Juniper styling

Thank you jkl for your thoughts. This tree was horribly root bound and neglected when I found it. Doesn't that make for good bonsai material sometimes?:) I did not think it prudent to just leave it or even pot it up. As it is, I had to practically destroy the original container to get the tree out!

    Juniper styling

    Wanted : JBP

On Evergreen: I haven't met Brent, but I feel like I know him from buying 8-9 trees and communicating back and forth. I'm sure he has great stock at the nursery, but online, I see Evergreen as a place where you can get nearly any species, variety or cultivar that you read about in the books...

    Bonsai Nurseries in California

I will be in the San Francisco, Palo Alto area next week and was thinking to visit some bonsai nurseries. I just don't know where to go. I'm hoping that some of you have your favourite haunts around there and will guide me in the right direction. Thanks so much for your help.
