    pieris

I have 2 pieris which much to my surprise I haven't managed to kill yet! I've even found a place for them in which they are happy and putting out new growth. But here is my problem, Due to using a bad batch of potting mix, I ended up repotting them last year, and noticed that there was no fresh...

    pond baskets

Lots of differences between Australia and america, things like pond baskets are just not common here. It's not like you can just walk into a department store here and buy them, you have to go to a specialist nursery.

    pond baskets

I started using colanders last year and found them fantastic, the difference in the root growth and formation was/is amazing. I found that colanders are more readily available (at $2- Au each) much cheeper than pond baskets (20- plus) even if they only last a couple of years, it's still worth it...

    Olive tree

I separated the two trunks, into two trees, and put them into the ground yesterday (If they die, I shall just deny ever having had them) My next question is, for trunk developement, can I, Should I treat it the same as I would a Maple type tree? It's strange but in most books, and websites...

    What to plant these on

I've used straight chilli powder to deter dogs, not on plants tho. works on washing and power cords should work. would use carefully first in case it caused leaf burn? spray plant with water, then sprinkle chilli powder over the plant. thing is the dog sniffs first, gets a snout full of chilli...

    Wisteria design options

I was reading this article about joining multiple trees together to make a thick trunk, and was thinking, would that work for wisteria? One section used a wire frame and seedlings were arranged around it, looked effective?

    false cypress

Would you believe that none of my books stated that you use the muck to build retaining walls? not plant the B***** trees in it:o :o :o :o Luckily when I had my white pine trimmed, I was set straight! Oh well, life's a learning experiance. (Mind you, no one told me here either?) (Oh...

    What to plant these on

Well things continue, I'm getting a large slab of bluestone to plant my forest on, I've got several choices as to what tree to use, silver birch, ceder, or maples, haven't decided which yet, I've got a couple of months to think yet, I'll do it in August. I'm setting up an overhead automated...

    White Pines

for those interested, I had the pine worked on this last week. As you can see, Maybe,It was decided that this tree needs more time as raw material, before being put into a bonsai pot, he removed the top, gave it a new apex, thus giving the trunk some movement and taper. He cut away a...

    Wisteria design options

I'd leave it as is for the most part, to my mind, wisteria is a plant that only really looks good as a bonsai when in flower, and should be left alone to grow the rest of the year. (with just enough pruning to keep it under control.

When's the last time a tree just DIED on you?

I'm good at killing corokia, not certain how I do it either. one theory is over watering, another is underwatering, onother is that the cat pissed on it, another is that I cut it back too hard? Then again, maybe they just die to spite me?:p
