I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out what is wrong with my Ficus

In the closeup pictures I can see some scale. this can cause some leaf drop as well as causing weakness in the growth. I remove all of the leaves on my ficus in the summer this makes the bud back all over and produces more and smaller leaves. They can be leaf pruned up to 3 times in a year. if...

Jumpin' on the Bald Cypress Bandwagon

I think flat tops are caused by storms taking the top out and it grows back with many branches at the top. I saw this on trees where the tops were twisted off from hurricane Hugo and years later many trunks formed at the bare top of the trunk.

    Do you know what Kind?

Hi Ryan, If this Azalea was started from seed it is not named. All named Azaleas are clones usually grown from cuttings. From my understanding the word Satsuki means fifth month, so Azaleas that bloom in May are Satsuki Azaleas. Here is a link that shows pictures of blooms and names of...

    Soil Sifters

The soil sifters that I have seen that are sold from Japan you can only use one screen at a time, by making your own you can use 3 or more screen at one time. I made frames with 1/4", 1/8", and screen wire (1/16"), 12" square and 2" deep, to sift soil many years ago and they are still being...

Very nice progression, thank you for taking the time to show your work. I like this tree and think that it will only get better with time in a pot. Have you done other potentilla? I bought one in Rochester a few years ago and have not touched the roots, only pruned the ends. I hope to get it...
