Bonsai Today Issues 1-97 complete and in great shape!

I have these and haven't looked at them in 5 years. It's time to let them go to someone who can use them. Anyone interested in the full set (minus the last few)?

    Help identifying pot and value

Can anyone tell me anything about this pot? I can get some better shots, but had to take them quick out the door this morning. It's in excellent condition with a great patina.

Are you a Net Bonsai Wanker?

Do you consider yourself one? I got the most interesting email from Marco Invernizzi just yesterday.

    Bonsai Retreat is fantastic!

What a great time we've been having, and it's awesome to get some instruction directly from Boon on my own trees...Good crowd for our first year and we are going to continue this into the future. I hope we get to see more of you next year! We had students from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa...

    Bonsai Retreat, Topeka, KS

You've been feeling it. Cabin fever. You know you want to work on your trees but they are in cold storage for the winter and you just can't get at them. With the early hard snows, this has been a tough winter, but spring is on the way. What better way to break the back of winter than in a bonsai...

Book Review: "Mission of Transformation," by Robert Steven

Mission of Transformation, First Edition By Robert Steven Edited by Will Heath Suprindo Offset Printing, Indonesia, 2007 166pp I received both of Robert Steven’s two books (this one and Vision of My Soul, which I reviewed here) at the same time. I made the early mistake of opening both...

Book Review: "Vision of My Soul" by Robert Steven

I've been spending some time with Robert Steven's first excellent work lately. I'm not a big fan of collecting beautifully bound or first-edition books. Some people live for this, others enjoy it, and that's fine for them. For my money, though, the only value of a book as such is the information...

    Boon Training Series Videos

The first two installments of what promises to be a very valuable collection are in: "Repotting: An Important Start to a Healthy Bonsai" and "Decandling: Japanese Black Pine" are excellent training videos showing the how-to of excellent technique. Full Disclosure: I have studied under Boon...

    Kaede Bonsai

This is the second year I have purchased seedlings from Matt Ouwinga. I have to say he's been one of the easiest and best vendors to work with I've seen. The seedlings are healthy and Matt always gives more than you ask. The cajun folks call it lagniappe, "a little bit more." This year I...

    The New Hoop House

Here's a new addition to Pavement Ends, and a chance to have my trees do better during winter months. Thanks to John Kirby (Vonsgardens) for all his help. For more construction details, check it out at bonsaistudygroup.com.

    An apology to Will...and others.

I find that I must apologize to Will Heath for claiming that the post that has been bothering me was deleted. I'm not sure how I missed it when I looked recently. I think I assumed it was further down in the thread and was looking for it from the bottom up, and never got to the first page...

What to do? What to do?

No content here Well I'm sorry I ever deleted all these posts. It's actually fun going back and reconstructing them, though. This is a little scots pine from seedling. It was a gift and a challenge. You can see wire scars from the past out on the low branch

Speaking of overdone teo the point of grotesque...

I linked this photo from one posted at ausbonsai.com. These are not benches of Japanese black pine. They are benches to support the single primary branch of the ancient garden tree in the back. Chris

    Another Freshly Dug Tree

Collecting trees for bonsai does not require a trip to the mountains. Sometimes an imagination and a willingness to ask are all it takes to find some promising material. Here is a tree I collected March 30th or so of 2009. This first tree is part of a hedge in front of my shop. It seems to be...

    New Workshops at Pavement Ends

Spring is close enough! Let's get together at Pavement Ends! Here's a link to my calendar showing workshop dates and information on them. We start with repotting and wiring, moving into spring work and on toward the summer with pines. I look forward to seeing folks and their trees...

    Perched water tables-myth?

Since the myths are being bunked or debunked, what about perched water tables? The main argument against a drainage layer has been so-called "perched" water tables. Has it really been shown that a bonsai pot with a drainage layer "perches" water?
