...for decandling my multi flush pines, because we’re all upside down here. Love this time of year... love pines really, so thought I might post a few pics of what I’ve been doing with them. If you’re south of the equator feel free to post whatever you’ve been up to with your pines here too.

Needs a bit of wire to refine that silhouette, but it's gonna be 34deg today (94F or so I think?) so I might leave that until things cool down a tad (more for my benefit than the pine).

Nice pines.
Not that I am en expert, but I believe we’re supposed to remove fertiliser after decandling. Maybe you did after taking the pictures. Just making sure you did not forget

Good pick up and it's true, the general practice is to remove the bags.
Nitrogen remains active and available in the fertiliser for around 30 days I believe, and this is the element we want to limit while the new buds develop so they don't extend too long both in terms of internodal length and needles. Other things that don't effect the length of growth may still be actively being released from the fert and benefiting the tree. I'm not completely over the exact science, but this is my basic understanding given what I read and have heard. Therefore, if the bags are over a month old they shouldn't really be impacting the goal of decandling because all nitrogen is exhausted.
Having said all that - you are also right on the second count ... I did in fact remove the fertiliser when I finished up for the day! 😛

Have a cool Japanese gardener neighbor. His JBP yard tree with years and years of work has perfect “Z”s in the secondaries coming off the primaries. Meticulous dude.

Nice work and nice trees Ryan.
I managed to find enough time to get through all my black and red pines earlier this week too.
