I repotted a seiju elm a few weeks ago whose roots had circled the 4 inch pot it was in about 4 times. Approximate length when straightened was about 30 inches, from a 6 inch tall plant.

Oaks typically grow roots first then top growth in subsequent years.

Left untrimmed, I think elm roots could reach the moon.
