Hi
So Ive known about the art of bonsai for about a year now. Ever since then I have been totally fascinated by them. I then found out my partners father had a few. So I was able to see in person and talk about them.
He then give me the tree in the photos to keep and said he brought it some time ago from a garden centre and didn’t know what it was, but I should only prune it around November.

Fast forward a month and I’ve read two beginners books “RHS the little book of bonsai” and “bonsai basics by Colin Lewis” and done a starter kit from seeds. Of which 3 are successful and two are currently in the fridge (not holding much hope).

So anyway I’m wondering if anybody can tell me the name of the tree? And also I’m thinking my germinated seeds are ready for reporting?

Welcome to Crazy!

That is a pretty nice tree there!

I'd seperate the seedlings carefully ...

Keep em all in different places, temp/sun environments, and see which does best.

Thank you :)

And thank you for your advise, that’s a good idea, I will do it and have a go at separating them.

In the future....if you plant one seed per cup...and intend to keep it that way into t2je ground....well...Don't! But if you had to...gotta get the ecopot into the ground to deteriorate before the roots get to it, so they can pass thru and not tangle.

But yeah...save that technique for veggies!

What is that tree? Zelcova?

I didn’t know them pots could be planted in the ground ? but duly noted for future.
I don’t know, that was my question. Someone else on another site has suggested Zelcova

Seems so..near an elm FWIW .

@MichaelS has a recently updated thread.
@cmeg1 threads are good.

Looks to be nearing or at a useable size.

Base/trunk pics?

@Mrrobertc have you been able to narrow down what your tree is? Have you transplanted your seedlings into individual pots or into the ground or something?

Welcome to the forum.

That's not a Zelkova, so probably what Brian suggested.

Hajimemashite, Bonsai teach us more than about tree. If you have local club, seek Sensei teachings. Hard to say from picture, but maybe this is a peach tree? Seedlings ready for growing pots.

Your tree is probably a Prunus inciso ‘kojo no mai’ aka Fuju Cherry. Go to a garden centre and compare it (leaves, bark) with examples there.
