Looking good. I think if you clear the grass back a bit you'll get even more growth.

The smaller pine has been used to experiment with/neglected. It is being trained as a root over rock. I cut it back to a lower branch and wired it like crazy ages ago and it hasnt done much since. I also dug this out of the ground and repotted.

In picking design sometimes consideration of new planting angle gives complete new possibility;).

Update

This larger pine has grown like crazy. It is now taller than me
20191025_185012.jpg20191025_184846.jpg

I still have not done anything to this tree really. My plan now is to try and air later it and then chop it in a year from now.

The smaller tree I havent done much its growing as a ROR experimental tree still

I will dig it up soon and inspect the roots/repot

For someone who claims to not know anything about pines, you’ve grown a couple of impressive ones!

Thank you! Although I give more credit to the environment that I live in. All i have done is give them plenty of water. They appear to thrive in Australia(based off of these two)

I still havent done anything to the bigger one. Just feed and water.

I think im finally ready to attack it. We are in autumn heading into winter. Should i trunk chop/root work at the end of winter or now?

My winters on the east coast of Australia are fairly mild.

The smaller ROR experiment tree has also put on some nice size. It was severely neglected in a pot that was too small up until last year

In a word, YES.
These have been in regular potting mix since i have had them, without any real root work done. Im thinking its time to do some root work get these into a better mix of maybe pumice, scoria, perlite and fine pine bark.

Then move to the next size up pot

Any sources or advice for root work? I was thinking remove half the rootball/large thick roots, comb/untangle.

A suggestion please; Bigger tree has roots crossing over top of others. These need removed. Just remove part above substrate and rest will rot away in time🤨.
