The North Carolina State Fair was held from Oct 14th-24th. For the first time a Bonsai Division was added to the Flower and Garden Show Competition. Arthur Joura, the Curator of the Bonsai Collection at the North Carolina Arboretum graciously agreed to serve as the judge for this first Bonsai competition. Only a week removed from his hard work at The 15th Carolina Bonsai Expo, Arthur made the trek to Raleigh, judged the trees and gave a Bonsai Demonstration to a crowd of lucky Fair patrons. Many thanks to Arthur Joura for sharing his time and bonsai knowledge with us.
There were three categories in the competition.
Best Evergreen
Best Deciduous
Best Shohin Display
Awards were also given for Best in Show and a People's choice award. Over 3800 votes were cast by Fair patrons during the week of the Fair.
Here are a couple of links to several image galleries of the event.
