How is size of tree calculated if you have a cascade or semi-cascade?
Same way I believe, highest point on the trunk to lowest point on the canopy. I don't believe that width is normally a factor, although pot size sometimes is.

Good question and I donā€™t know . I guess it would be the distance from the top of the pot to the lowest/ tallest point . I donā€™t think Iā€™m gonna get any problems

Top of the apex to the lowest point of the cascade I believe. Bjorn spoke about cascade shohin width recently, if I remember correctly there isnā€™t a firm rule but the width needs to be ā€œreasonableā€, as in if it looks ridiculously wide for a shohin then itā€™s too wide.

Alright, I just walked around looking for weeds to use in my yard and garden. I got about 4 Mimosa seedlings growing and about 8 Siberian Elm seedlings. I'm entering the decidious category with my weed trees. I might enter the conifer too with a JBP, I just need to measure the sapling to make sure it's within regsšŸ˜‚

That large Ulmus Pumila seedling in the last two photos is a first year seedling that will probably keep growing for another 3 months due to my late winters here lol. It was growing in the raised bed with a couple tomato bushes I had in there. The tomato bushes got blight and died so ripped them out and disconnected the drip system in that raised bed, a couple months ago I decided to start hand watering the seedlings that were popping up and that one just took off. The raised bed has a high nitrogen content as I used the HĆ¼gelkultur method with alfalfa and straw on the bottom layer, and then a mix of 50/50 top soil and cow manure for the top layer, with another thin layer of straw on top as a mulch.

I'll be transplanting the seedlings in my front yard to my HĆ¼gelkultur raised beds (I have 4 6x3 in total) as my wife won't appreciate some ugly 3 year old saplings growing randomly in the front yard šŸ˜‚

I'll start my threads today after my 3rd cup of coffee kicks in.
