Bought @Lowes for just under $6. Tried to air layer it when I first got it, about a month ago, but it wasn't healthy enough, so I just nursed it back to health. You can see the newer growth since I've had it.

What’s your plan of attack going to be on this one? Are you going to try another air layer?

I thought about waiting until next spring to air layer but I'm liking the canopy that's been created here, so I might just keep it as is and train it.

Air layering would keep the canopy without the ungainly stick trunk
I might try to air layer another Japanese maple first because I haven't had much success with it so far and I don't want to kill the nice canopy. I'm still pretty new to bonsaiing

Nice job nursing it to health. I bought a bunch of these at Lowe's as well and all but one went the way of the dinosaur.
