I wasn’t planning on entering another tree but since Tis the season for close outs and discounted trees I figured what the heck. I picked this one up at lowes today. I was asking the cashier about the discount trees and he asked me which ones I was interested in. I looked around and found this “crimson queen” originally $59.99. The graft had died way earlier this year and the understock looks like it put on a ton of growth. He told me the lowest he could mark it down to was $12.49! SOLD!

It’s got a nice thick base on it with tons of low bud sites, it’s even got the start of a nice flaring nebari.

It’s quite chunky for a $13 tree

The plan for this one is to chop out the thick center trunk and one of the lower branches that’s growing too close to another branch, then chop all remaining branches between the 2nd and 3rd nodes. Hopefully I can get a decent little tree out of this one in 4.5 years😎

I finally got around to messing with this one. It got a hard chop, root work today and put back into its pot lined with a grow bag.

Growing so well, it looks like your tag might bite in! Okay, maybe it's not such an imminent threat, but it will happen!!

This is a good find for sure! Makes me want to go look for nursery stock, but I can't find any green APs in the nurseries near me, it's mostly grafted cultivars.

Pandacular is right, the tag will start to cut in at some point. See pic.

It’s still loose. I been keeping an eye on it. Thank y’all for the reminder
