I've been keeping this guy little since I collected it 3 years ago. Every winter I try to wire a cool new twist into it.

Very nice. If you get a close up of the leaves and bark we might be able to tell if it's a hornbeam or American elm.

Elm are super tricky when they're that young. I agree it looks like genus Ulmus but don't own any hornbeam so I don't have that "eagle eye" edge

Hornbeam buds are long and pointy, elms much more squat and rounded. No buds in these pics, but maybe that will help you.
