I had no idea these "air layering pods" existed. Has anybody used them successfully before?

I also found a number of designs on Thingiverse and other 3D Printing sites. I will print some for testing. Couldn't hurt...

But yeah, maybe these pods are just trying to over-engineer a non-problem.
The nice thing is that you have 2 halfs that clip together. Putting a sheet on, filling it with substrate and sealing the top can be a bit of a hassle if alone. I find myself always a hand short (And have resorted to wiring a pot in the tree, filling that with substrate.

I picked some up on Amazon last fall that I have not used yet. They come in different sizes and are cheaper than dirt. I will be using them very soon. I have done the usual plastic wrap method but these look a whole lot easier in every way.

I just ordered a small pack too. For reverse engineering ;)
I guess 3-D printing must be pretty cheap huh? Hard to beat what I paid on Amazon. Or is it that you just want to do it? Just curious.

I've got a small one on now. It'll cost about $0.42 in material and take about 75 minutes to print (a piece, but I have two printers so total for me).

Time is the real currency in 3D Printing. A larger one will take longer. But if I need a larger one, I only need to modify the file slightly and there you go.

But really... I just like to use my printers. Injection molding is best for most things.

This is some of the stuff I do. Just a fun hobby. Although I have made $50 printing lithopanes.

Very cool. On the items with moving parts, do you print the entire object, or print pieces, then assemble them?

Thank you!

The dolphin and X-Wing were printed as separate parts and put together.

It is possible to design "Print-In-Place" mechanical objects though. Flexis. Pliers. Model engine blocks. Boxes.

But it is also fun to print in different colors and assemble the end product.

Made me think of when I was a student and DVD writers were horribly expensive.
My university was the testcase for broadband internet, and I was on the first testgroup. I bought a DVD burner, connected to some online groups, and cornered the music-and-other-stuff DVD market in my student flat, when it was still invisible. That thing was burning DVD's almost 24/7 paying for my whole computer setup and then some. The byting 90-ies

LOL that brings back remarkably similar memories. Those early burners were highly unreliable, though. When we'd start one up, we'd turn off the lights and no one was allowed to be in the room. (No idea if that made a difference!)
