The Mid-America Bonsai Exhibition has a long history, going into its 40th year in 2017. It is one of the largest regional shows in the nation. Centered on the Chicago Botanic Garden's Permanent Collection, featuring over 50 world-class trees, it’s a showplace of trees from across the Midwest and beyond. Enthusiasts from across the country bring their trees to be judged in the main hall at the Garden's Regenstein Center.

Visitors can take advantage of hotel discounts arranged by the Chicago Botanic Garden. When making reservations tell the hotel you are in town to attend an event at the Garden. Suggested hotel accommodations can be found at the Chicago Botanic Garden's website.

Admission to the exhibit is free. Parking fees for entrance to the Chicago Botanic Garden apply. As always, Chicago Botanic Garden members park for free.

Kathy Shaner is guest judge.

I will be there the afternoon of the 18th.

I am tacking my daughter downstate for the Solareclispe that weekend. I will be 45 minutes away from Cass Bonsai for the weekend, while they will be 25 minutes from my house as vendors at the show.

I love my daughter even when she ruins my life. :)

Work will have me in Aurora that week, I should have one of those days off. I think I will go check it out. As well as meet some enthusiasts and learn.

Bogus!

Workshop next year for sure!

I do hope to spend the whole undetermined day there though.

I was going to buy a pot this year....
Seeing as how I kill "acquisitions" like raid kills bugs.

But Free Mirai'd....
I may go for The Acquisition part III!

And a pot!
Maybe a knob cutter.

@Leo in N E Illinois @CasAH

What's up with a carpool?
I might park blocks away and walk in!

$20 bucks for more bonsai stuff is $20 bucks for bonsai stuff!

Sorce, I can only make it Friday afternoon. I am taking my daughter downstate for the Solareclispe and leaving Saturday morning. It is a six hour drive and I am meeting my nephew and his bride for dinner.

The town they live in is on the centerline for totality of the eclipse. We are going to the Cahokia mounds on Sunday. They are the largest earthenware structures in the Western Hemisphere and were built in about 1000 to 1100 ad.

Is there anybody from the NE area that's planning to go to this show? I ask because I am trying to get a large oak to my place and hoping someone could bring the tree? I can pick it up at a designated meeting spot if necessary.

I'll be there with one of my bonsai I displayed at the first show 40 years ago!!
I first met @William N. Valavanis at this show 22 years ago when he was displaying his beautiful cascading cork bark black pine (cover of International Bonsai 1995 #4) :) I have a long memory for beautiful trees...

Call me, we can set up a time, meet at the Binny's Liquor Store parking lot, you can ride in with me in my ''member's car'' with its RFI chip membership tag. Free parking. Then we can have a beer afterwards.

I'll be there on Saturday with the girlfriend. If you notice a blonde-haired, 5'7'' mid-twenties dude with glasses wearing a blue 2017 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival shirt, be sure to say hello. Always great to put a face to the name. I'll be in the market for one pot and some supplies. I'm really looking forward to this one. Prairie State's show this past weekend was fun and I'm expecting this one to be much bigger.

And THIS is why I need to start selling my bonsainut t-shirts :) I have too many projects going on right now. The t-shirts are ready, I just need to set up the store front. I am going to sell them at cost... but no returns :) I'm not in the t-shirt biz...
