Late Winter, during budswell...

While still "building" the tree, prune back to 1-2 bud(s) ABOVE where your intended "keeper chute" is.IMG_20230329_140517.jpgIMG_20230329_140454.jpg

*Whack!*

Spring: once extensions have hit 4-6 leaves, and chute is pliable, but not too fragile.

I defoliate... Then wire.

....but if wire is not "your thing"..

That is entirely alright with me.

The larger Ribes of this duo blew of a table and snapped off the lowest branch.

S'all good!

...

High-summer: I basically start the process again.. pruning back to just above (except this time CAN be 2-4 above, if that is what "feels right") where my "goal" buds are (unless already AT them) only this time, the defoliation will be partial, and come sooner.
