Yes, I’m always charmed by the nine barks, but an expert at my bonsai club told me these are too coarse to really Be bonsai. I defoliated and this is the new leaves in midsummer. Ran out of wire and this didn’t work. Will try again on straight sections in fall.

I think it behooves one to eliminate these styles of phrases from ones tool-belt.


I’ll bet, learning about WHEN to wire those coarse branches will allow you to approach them differently.. not on a standard schedule as i’d imagine. Then.. once set.. the member’s trees i’ve seen ‘round here appear to have developed pads.. USING that coarse twigginess... Pretty neat! I’ll take a few pictures next time i swing by that nursery.

I think you’ll produce a fine, miniaturized tree.
