I took Number 1 out of the ground yesterday. I wish now that I had forced some more dramatic curves into it, but I can do that with the other two. I'll get to work on the branching on this one this spring/summer.
There isn't much in the way of root flair, unfortunately. I didn't disturb the soil immediately around the trunk, however, as it was planted in horrible clay-like soil that tends to break off small roots if you mess around with it too much. I had already reduced the roots significantly by digging it up, and didn't want to risk losing too many by trying to clean out all of the old soil. I will let it recover for a year in the pot before getting back in there for a closer look.
