Picked this thing up a few weeks ago at a nursery near me. I only have procumbens junipers but have been looking for a decent scale juniper for a while now. I know. Get a Shimpaku. Never seen one at any of the nurseries I've been to so I got this.
They had 3 that were put in the ground in their buckets allowing the roots to escape. God only knows how long they have been there but this was the smallest!
I picked this one so I could get a little quality time (so to speak) and learn its ways. His big brothers aren't going anywhere. That way I know they will be there in good shape next year when I go get them.
So I'll field any and all suggestions you guys want to throw my way.
Thank you in advance.

Interesting with lots of possibilities. I have always found it helpful to "live" with a tree for several months or years before grabbing my tools. Haste means saying "OH I shouldn't have cut that. Good luck and follow-up pics please.

Looks like you've got a pretty good opportunity to create some wicked deadwood with that bottom horizontal branch. Something I would consider is looking at different planting angles. I wonder what the base looks like under the moss.

It was laying flat so stood it up some. The base has all kinds of roots growing everywhere. The tree has been ground layering itself. And yeah deadwood possibilities galore.

Can you post pics with a neutral background and maybe a couple of different views?

Rob

Will tomorrow. Thunder and lightning going on right now and since I was struck once I'm a little leery.

Be safe and well. The tree has a lot of different ways to go but looks healthy and up to the challenge. Rest well and be safe.

Thank you. They say that once lightning strikes you it tries to get you again. Last time got me in the house and stopped my heart. Not something I would recommend but it was wild.

Woah....???

Nuts huh? I was playing my guitar and it came through that. Burned my guts right out of my Led Paul and dropped me in my tracks. When I woke up it was like starting a film from dead to regular speed. Slow to fast. I was playing Metallica Motor breath. Kind of ironic don't you think?

That's just crazy. You were lucky to get away without injury. Also, I guess we are not only Godzilla fans, but metal guitar players as well. I haven't played in a little while, but I played for like 20 years, gave it up for like 8 years, then went back to it about 1 1/2 years ago. You could say I played guitar for the better part of 30 years.

Godzilla and screaming guitars go together like peanut butter and jelly. And you can probably guess that I can rip out some Blue Oyster Cult too.
It's really cool to find people that like the same things I do. Godzilla, guitars and bonsai. Don't tell me you like Bass fishing too.

I always wondered if you could see my skeleton when I got lit up like on the album cover. For all the younger people reading this albums are an old music storage disc.

Can't say I am on board, no pun intented, with the bass fishing thing. My other passion is horror movies and Halloween. I have been collecting Horror/monster memorabilia for almost 25 years. Godzilla items are a part of what I collect. Outside of monster collecting, I am also a big Incredible Hulk fan and collect Hulk items as well. Particularly items related to the classic Hulk look drawn by Sal Buscema of the 1980's.

I trimmed trees in Brockton Mass a few years ago. How close to there do you live Rob.

About 45 minutes.

In regards to the guitar thing. All my equipment is vintage. I use a Marshall JCM 800 head with a Marshall JCM 900 cabinet. A Jackson soloist guitar. A Boss HM2 pedal (Heavy Metal) with a Boss Super Overdrive Pedal. Captain Crunch doesn't compare to the crunch coming from my amp.;)

Rob

My set up is a Gibson Les Paul Classic with EMG 81 pickups cause the originals cooked. My amp is a Peavy 5150 and a Boss ME 50 processor pedal. Beyond crunch more like a flamethrower.
Now the pictures I promised.

You also have some great vintage guitar equipment.

As fas as the tree, even though the pic is cut off, I think pic 3 might be a good choice. It might make a nice twin trunk cascade. Here is an outline.
