Here is a simple idea for those of us that are still here and active on this forum.

If you have trees, post them.

I know that some are reticent to show anything but a tidy "finished" or something close to... but I don't know why. I've put plenty of developing trees on here (of course, I could do better too, and plan to). There should be no shame in posting a tree that you are trying to develop.

If you look at these posts of trees, comment.
(unless the poster asks for no comments, and is just displaying it)

I try to find something constructive to say when I see trees posted here, even if they are not my cup of tea...
But every comment can spur a thought, or take you down another road. And once you commit to commenting, then it can only lead to more and more participation.

Be respectful.

no explanation needed there.

I will do my best to post more trees, I have a couple that I've been sitting on... I know lots of you have 50 or more trees, some have many more than that. Let's stop chatting about it, and post it up.

Many times even something as "seemingly" harsh "chop it to the ground and regrow it" is helpful. 90% of my trees are in various stages of training. Maybe I'm a perfectionist but most of the time I can't bring myself to put anything in a pot that i don't feel is ready. Maybe that means the tree never will be. However I love to read what others think as it often corrects wrong thinking on my part.

Long way to say post'em! When people do, please everyone chime in even if you are a newbie!

I agree and been doing this with some of my sticks and stumps, all in plastic tubs. I have a few more I can start sharing... ;)

I don't care if they look bad now...I hope someone can help me bring the best out of them. Or maybe show my mistakes so others can avoid them.

But I beg you all...please say something, good or bad...but hopefully constructive.

Doesn't seem like there's much love for the tropicals section, but I posted a couple of mine in there.

davetree, that's the whole point of this thread. To get more people to add their comments and garner more participation. Once it starts, it can snowball.... so everybody just give it a try, hey? what've we got to loose?

kennedy, there are trop fans here, I see them.... I have a very few. keep after it.

Agreed on this...I posted some when I first signed up for the board but I have shifted, repotted, pruned, etc. several since and not updated them. I will be doing this in the next few days.

I've got no problem posting pics, but the only camera I have is the one on this computer, so the photos are kinda crappy. Should we be posting them in the gallery, or just as thumbnails in this thread?

C.A., start your own threads for your trees, one for each. That's what the threads are for. Progression threads of some of the great artists on this site, are how you learn stuff. Go look em up, and see what I mean.

I admit I'm one of the many who frequent the forum and doesn't interact much. I will take some pics and post em. Most of my trees are in development stages.

I post a lot of crappy pics. I get feedback a lot anyway. Hang on folks I just ordered a camera and tripod so no more of my crappy iPhone pics hopefully.:)

Not wanting to sound, "Poor Me", but I got tired of trying to comment on a lot of trees, but then have very few responses when I posted a few of mine own. Wasn't necessarily a bad thing because it got me off the computer and into the garden!

Now that the days are shorter in the northern hemisphere, I'll visit a little more often.

PS Judy, You've always been very good at posting responses, and it was much appreciated but probably never stated.

I agree with the OP.

I DO recall that recently there was a thread (I think it was the one trying to get WP to post more here) comparing the trees in development on this board to the trees that were finished and/or more promising on other boards. The gist was that we should post better material if we wanted more responses. That idea, unlike this one, fostered elitism and discouraged newbs to post and interact. Bad for the membership imo.

I'm glad you brought this to the table. Now to find pictures of raw stumps with 10 years to go. ;)

Cheers,

-B

Great challenge. Thank You.

Ill put on my brave face and try to comment more as well post more of my trees and/or dig up a couple of old threads. Keep in mind, my trees are all ver much in the pre, pre bonsai stage for the most part.

Pardox, don't care that they are pre. how do you think I got where I am? Posting lame stuff, and working the lame stuff till I knew what I was doing. That's what the forum is for.

Not that I'm saying your pre bonsai is lame, but you know what I mean.;)
