Have you ever seen a dog that just got a fancy haircut that looks stupid, so you kind of feel sorry for it? That’s what I thought of when I first saw this little Thyme-leaf cotoneaster. That was last May. I didn’t buy it.
Fast forward to this week. The tree was still at the nursery, lonely, pitiful, tucked away in a corner. I decided to take it home.

Now that I know a bit more about cotoneasters I can appreciate it more.
Though it looks strange, there seems to be potential. The leaves are tiny. Compared to a grey-leaf cotoneaster, they’re about half as long and 1/3 as wide. The fruit is tiny too and scaled well to the leaves and branching.
The tentative plan is to air layer the top off next year to make a mame bonsai then put the remaining stick into a large pot to grow.

I don’t really have any questions, I just wanted to share something with you. Of course, if anyone has any comments, pointers, or advice I’d appreciate it.

That's called a progression thread around here.

Congratulations on making your unintentional next step toward BNut stardom.

Looking forward to seeing what happens. I love fruiting/flowering trees.

Nice trunk. Must be pretty old. It looks like you’ll have some good options with that one.
