So, in light of recent holiday's I've considered buying a pine and creating a Christmas tree with it. I realize that a Christmas tree is normally a young tree and therefore will not fit the bonsai profile but I think it would be a neat thing to have around to bring indoors and decorate for a couple weeks each year. Has anybody else considered this? If so did you do it? Why / Why not?

Regards,
Dale

This year I've seen some MontereyPines being sold as Christmas trees that may work for bonsai. The rest of the "living Xmas" trees around these parts aren't suitable for bonsai. Wait until Wed. and you'll probably save some $.

I have a Deodar Cedar that began as a live Christmas tree from OSH and is becoming a pretty nice bonsai.

Vance Wood has one of the best examples of a Christmas tree that was turned into a bonsai. It is a spruce. It is a beautiful tree. I hope he reads this and posts it.

I have thought about doing this but have never seen one small enough that looked like a real tree. Most theones you see are a collection of sprigs shaped likea tree. Last year in the Home Depot they had some Rosemary plants shaped like Christmas trees. Believe it or not they had a inch and a half trunk and were 12 inches tall. I just spent a bunch on materials and did not have the cash on hand, only $20.00, when I returned a few days later they were all gone.

I'll check the stores on Wed and if anybody still has a tree I think I'll pick something up. I would like to have a pine in my collection.
