ok, not really. About 7 or 8 years ago a fellow club member bestowed upon me a flat of A. Palmatums. They had been in the flat long enough to have grown to about 18-24" or so, and the roots had completely knitted themselves into a large mat. I used shears to cut them apart and ended up with about 4x4 squares that I planted on top of a piece of plywood in the back corner of my back yard, where they lived in morning sun and afternoon shade.
Fast forward to this spring, when I lifted the largest two. I bare rooted them and put them into more suitable containers for development.
