Both these two crape myrtles this spring. An Acoma CM and a Natchez CM. Worked the roots hard and chopped hard. All summer I let the shoots run until they were about to flower then cut back. Just defoliated the Acoma and cut back. I’ll wire for a bit more movement as well. The Natchez still needs to turn a bit more before I defoliate. I’m happy with the progress so far. Both are aways out still as the wounds still need major healing, branches need much developing and nebari is a work in progress.

Here is the Natchez which has a nicer base and nebari but didn’t put on growth I liked as much as the Acoma. branches need thickening and I will repeat the process of letting run till flower then cut next season. I may also put this one in an Anderson flat next season for development.

Wow, nice growing season for these! Did these come from that little neighborhood nursery? I should have grabbed one when I was down there!

Actually picked these up from our big wholesale nursery called plant world. Each was like $20.

I think the Natchez needs quite a bit of grow out time in a larger pot for the line I picked to thicken proper, especially the first branch. But I really like the direction the Acoma is going as it feels more natural.

Strange year for these. Fast and early start, then slowed with leaf issues, then took off again mid summer. Had some branch die back on both with more happening to the second one, including the apex. I’m thinking the trimming I did over the winter was Ill timed. 3330C536-631C-44C3-BDF7-089D323F5FEC.jpeg
