Well since its winter and I am bored I wanted to make some pots that would look a bit nicer in the backyard than 20 different colored collanders. The smaller one is about a foot by 8 inches the larger is 2ft by 2ft and both are about 3 inches deep. I treated them with stain and then several layers of cabot. Hopefully they can stand up for a few years and also I am still kind of finishing figuring out my easiest and cheapest design technique with the limited tools I have and using whatever scrap material I have around, what do you think?

Have you paid your royalty fee to Vance? He holds a patent on that design, you know.

You probably need a couple cross braces across the bottom. Wet soil is pretty heavy.

I would like to definitely give credit to vances design! My woodworking skills are mediocre and this is not as aesthetically pleasing as the ones of his I have seen here on bnut. The smaller one I think will hold its got 2 layers of screen on the bottom and is held on by some pretty good washers, the larger one yea I need to figure out some bracing before I find the monster im gonna dig up and put in it.

E: I really have been meaning to get some of sorces materieal specifically for the bottoms but have just been a bit lazy and trying to keep costs low and free up garage space using stuff the gf swore I'd never use!

If you're concerned about sag in the middle, maybe you could just run another "foot" straight across the middle underneath.

I would do 3 across the bottom- wet soil and a tree make get you in trouble if lifted
