Take a look at this boxwood I picked up today. Sorry no pics before I have it a haircut. Is this worth the 70$ I paid? All other thoughts welcome

I don't have any real opinions on the price, but I know that I couldn't find any boxwood with a nice fat trunk and nebari on it like that when perusing big box stores last year. That's a great find.

It would be nice to see lower branches to work with, but then 70 would be low if that was the case. In 2 years when you lower it 2/3rds to new better branch placement it will have been an excellent price and well worth to reflection time.

depends on if it's korean or kingsville. The later, it would be a very good deal as you have some age there.

I'm not one to fous on price, just the satisfaction one derives when they take something and make it better. The worth is in the potential.

recently I over spent on a living room remodel and with an upcoming session with ryan neil
bought an inexpensive blue atlas cedar to take to class instead of the usual expensive yaadori
dug pine or juniper. learnd a good lesson there. Atlas was incredible. I couldn't even take credit for picking it out as the front i selected turnd out to be the back. LOL

good luck with the boxwood :)

I agree that it's all about the satisfaction that will be derived from learning and working with it to see if I can progress this tree forward and keep it healthy. For me it was worth the initial cost as I know in years to come it has the potential to be much greater

It seems to me that you were sold a tree that has been defectively assembled with the branches on the bottom instead of the top. You should try and get your money back!

Yes I am trying out the whole upside down growing thing to get the apex closer to the trunk.

I try not to treat any of my trees as an "investment". First, because they can die anytime, 2nd treating it as an investment might make me very cautious that I cannot do what I want to bring it to its maximum potential (limited by my ability only).

It is a nice tree but you need to decide which of those branches you need soon. The bottom 2 branches (opposite big and small) for me need to go. Look for chicken feet (trident or peace sign) branch formation and remove the middle right away...it will help you thin this down considerably as well.

BTW, When removing big branches, try to leave a stub...it will give you some carving options later. I regret cutting mine flush right away.

Good luck!

Sorry but I just couldnt look at stuff standing on my head anymore. The blood rushes to my brain (normally starved) and I keep blacking out.
