This is a shohin sized Valavanis cypress. The first pic is a before.
The second has the trunk wired with #10 copper wire. I twist the tree in the direction of the coil. This strengthens the tree while bending. This twist also allows me to place branches in the traditional left, right, back (or variation of) branch placement.
The third pic is three pieces of #14 wire later. The branches were lowered and placed in a radial pattern to ensure they receive light.
PS Put a little bacon grease on the plastic pot before you pic it with you cell camera.

Is this a hinoki?
It came from a witches broom on an Atlantic white cedar,Chamaecyparis thyoides. Bill Valavanis collected, rooted and cultivated it. A nurseryman in Nichols, NY named it after Bill. It's history and full grown examples can be found in his book, Classical Bonsai Art.
