I have decided to post the photos of a small Mugo I plan on taking on next month. It is now in a one gallon nursery pot and is a tree that I have had for a few years. It was a gift and I pretty much ignored the tree for several years other than to keep it alive. As is the case with a lot of trees it suffered its ups and downs and has developed a bit of character of its own the deserves some work. I am beginning to subscribe to the concept of programed neglect for young stock lacking any character. I have cut the tree back a time or two and not allowed it to go beyond a certain limit. It has started to form bark and the needles are starting to bunch up.

Here are three more photos that go with this tree.

Thanks for posting Vance. It will be interesting to see where you take this one.

Looking forward to the next posts Vance. Also, I mean if someone is going to give you a gift, it might as well be a nursery mugo.

In my imagination I see a pretty nice tree hiding in there, I hope I can let it loose with out killing it.

The view in the first pic seems to have a very nice base.

Rob

Actually #7 has the best base and trunk but the rim of the post makes that pretty hard to see, you'll have to wait a couple of weeks when I expose the base and everything else.

This is going to be a very long progression? From what I see and knowing your incredbile patience. We are probably talking about 10 years plus, aren't we?;)

I am glad that you are sharing this step by step with us. I know I will be watching with interest. Especially to see what you uncover down below...

Ya me too. That can sometimes be a crap shoot but it has been in this container for some time so I suspect it will not be too bad-----we all shall see and then---- I can accept the praise or dodge the criticism. Either way I will show you the entire story.

#1 This should be in the pines section for easy future reference as with your other pines threads you posted earlier this month. Im afraid they will get lost in the pile up here :(

#2 Seeing Vance take on such a project, I feel better about the rather leggy mugo I bought last year because I liked its trunk. I repotted it last year and Im now feeding the proverbial crap out of it to get it to start back budding.

Nice tree to show us what can be done with Mugo's. Thanks Vance.

I don't have a problem with The Nut moving this thread. I always post on the general forum because I have found in the past that a specific subject post can go ignored for a considerable time.

This is going to be exactly what I was hoping for, a step by step progression.

Vance, I look forward to this. This will help may of us who faithfully follow your posts.
