Each side but #1 has some good points. I like the movement in 2 but there are some large visible scars? Those will heal in time. 3 is nice but something about the base looks undercut from that side. 4 is good, but will need a slightly different planting angle to not feel off balance. Tip back to the left a bit, rework the branches to work with this side, and I'd probably choose that one. You'll have to grow the apex back toward being more over the trunk at some point. Elms are really good therapy, they always need some pruning! Hang in there.

I don't think the 3rd one will work because your first branch would be toward the back of the tree. I like the 1st image best. Nice elm whatever direction you go with though.

I like pic No.2 if the tree leans forward. But it's personal...

But it's an ELM! :) New branches can be whipped up in short order... I say always go with the best moment and base, and make everything else follow.

True that :) (edit: that first branch is nice and beefy though)

How do you even have time to water all those trees! Great garden!

Thanks, it really doesn't take that much time, maybe 45 minutes to an hour. I hope to install an automatic system this winter to use when I don't time. I prefer to hand water, it is how I like to unwind in the evening.

The hurricanes take care of it for him.

Well, not completely true. I put most of the good stuff in the shed and garage, it will all have to be watered tomorrow when I put it back out, if the shed is still there. The other stuff is under the benches and will get a good watering.

@sorce, the tree is about 9 inches tall and about that wide. The pot is 9 x 12 inches.

I made this pot the day before this post!
(Just a tad antsy!)
I am crazy excited to get it fired!
(Just a tad!)

Be excited with me! This is gonna be dope!

If it wasn't for you John....
I would not be so frigging happy these past few days!

Where has clay been all my life!?

UPDATE:

The Corker gets a Repot

First lets have a look at the pot. It is from an American Potter, Sam Miller, he makes some fantastic and reasonably priced pots. Check him out on FB at Intermoutain Bonsai or on the .99 Bonsai auction FB page.

Hot pink drainage screen, you ask? Why yes, I find that it makes the trees grow better, even better than the magical stuff like akadama and kanuma.

Here is the victim, err, subject:

All of the old soil cleaned out. I planted this one on a tile so i got some pretty flat roots. It is a little lacking on one side, but hopefully the smaller roots will catch up.
