I bought this about four years ago at a landscape nursery, with the intention of growing out the lower branches. Meanwhile, I've had fun constructing a literati style in what is evenutally going to be a sacrifice trunk.

I can see four different trees within this one: Literati, the shohin that I'm planning, a semi-cascade and a tree with a very vertical branch coming off the apex (about half way up the current trunk). It's been fun playing around with the tree.

Nice work, I like the idea of dual purposing the sacrifice. Heck, while your at it you might buy a fresh bottle of rooting hormone and give the air layer a whack, or due some crazy grafting?
