Accidental cutting" ?

I had a limited success with acer p. cuttings done in late winter, planting branches I pruned "just in case".

But maybe this one will take. It's the top of a tree I pruned in March this years, and I left it in the kind of "avocado bowl" you can see on the right of the first picture.

It put out leaves, but this is not surprising and it doesn't mean there will be roots. After a while, the leaves just wilt down, and that's it. But as I was about to bin it, I saw that it was beginning to put out new roots. So I refreshed the main cut, removed a couple of shoots that looked unhealthy, and potted it. We'll see...
