Imperial Masterpiece
I bought this Acer b. in July 2007, on sale (45€, about 2m50 tall):
To cut a long story short, I put the stump left from air-layering, then hard pruning what was left in the ground in 2012:
Sept. 2012:
Each year, I would cut back the new shoots, about 2m the second year! I hoped that the base would fatten, and two big roots each side of the trunk would fuse with the main trunk in the end.
October 2014:
Big mistake. April 2016:
Once the roots washed, the two roots on the sides haven't improved:
So I repotted it, and when it has recovered, Imight do what I should have done in the first place, layer it:
Or: since I have two dozen seedlings, I might also graft some on the base...
What would you do?
