Can't see why OP wouldn't start pruning it now (he's in TN anyway - with probably not too severe a winter). And after leaf fall is a great time to see and set structure on a tree. Once the leaves have fallen (or are ready to be pulled off), I've been doing any deciduous trees that needed structure work.

Cleaned her up a bit today.

One of the approach grafts had come apart, so I tried my hand at re-attaching.

The other grafts will be cut in the spring, they’ve done well.

I also thinned her out. This tree puts a ton of growth on in the fall, so I like to do this work now, before that second big flush arrives.

That is developing into a nice tree! I have a few purchase tree's like this - This is very nice.

What do you think of some minor branch relocation while it still early days? In particular if you moved any of the smaller lower branches towards the front it would break up that long front face with branches only coming from the left and right sides.
