On a recent hike, hunting for native roses, I noticed these fellas overturned due to soil erosion. They appeared in distress, with their “heads” dunked in the swamp. So
rescue efforts were attempted, and the health/lives of those trees will be recorded here.
(I DID end up finding a nice “smooth rose” specimen, digging the root ball, placing somewhere “hidden” for the walk back AND also NOT being able to locate it afterwards.)

Acer Rubrum 2 -
All trunks are connected sub-terra. The vision (at this time) for this specimen would be a sort of “eerie windswept clump”

(The “front-most” tree WILL be (This year) pruned back to JUST above the bend to balance the presentation visually. This section was left to keep some foliage, attempting to insure vitality)

I have so many red maples here they are like weeds.

Hehe! That’s like sugars and boxelders, here.. we do have red and silver, too. But not nearly as much, and the Rubrums stick to the swamp. (But No lack of swampland) 😆

I hear that Northern Door County has an abundance of Ginnalas... gotta start “sniffin’ some out” for fall.

Thank you!
That is my “collection tree mix” :)

Starts with DE/perlite/Azomite (my standard inorganic mix) Then I add some of the soil (from the spot of collection) some pine bark, and sifted lake sand.

🤓

Nice. I'm learning a lot from Acer rubrums too. They grow so well and so fast here. I've got a couple that have grown 22 inches since April...from seeds! Already have surpassed some of my 2 and 3 year old JMs.

Love that glaze on the pot that Rubrum #2 is in.

We have tons of rubrums here in the woods. Cool to see what you're doing to rescue these fellas. I'm also trying to sniff out some acer ginnala around here... They can't hide forever!
