Hello everyone.
I have a question regarding Shirasawanum Aureum. I bought this tree specifically for bonsai and wanted to know if it grows back on old wood. As you can see I cut it back hard about 1 month ago expecting to get new growth from the trunk, however nothing has happened.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
My personal experience with the shirasawanums I have, including seedlings, is that they are pretty much a single flush tree......sometimes throwing out some growth in late summer. My only luck is to remove all leaves to get them to shoot new ones.

I think these are something you should look at pruning in the winter, mine has had a couple of branches just die for no reason. Yet it did eventually sprout some buds further down the trunk. These can be very slow growing so be conservative with cutting back.
