How do I know what species will graft to each other? Mom wants to graft a Korean pine onto a native tree, maybe ponderosa or western white

Generally Pines should graft to Pines, Juniper to Juniper... but you can ask @Adair M about grafting Ume to Juniper, I don’t think that works.

Lol!!!

When we grafted the Ume to Juniper, it lasted long enough to bloom!

But, yeah, pine to pine, juniper to juniper, similiar fruit trees to each other

There’s one guy who grafts 40 different varieties of plum, apricot, cherry, etc to one trunk. Google “Tree of 40 fruits”.

I think the rule of thumb is anything in the same genus will work.
