Hi All,

Let me start off by wishing you all a great liberation day (Which is what we Dutchies celebrate on the 5th of July; The fact that we are unoccupied, and that the second world war piece was signed on this date in 1945!

Anyway.. I dug up a large garden azelea late last summer. After nerve-wrecking winter months, the plant came back beautifully this spring, first with loads of flowers and now with growth on all the main branches. So far, very happy.

As the plant currently stands 5 feet across and tall, branches need to go. Many of these branches were formed over some 40 years of twising and curling, so have loads of character. I would like to keep some. I was wondering... How well do azalea's air layer? Any specific treatment different from regular ring-bark-spaghnum methods?

Yes they air layer easily. I ring a section of bark and wrap it in sphagnum moss. You should have roots by the end of the season.
