Air layer mold.

My 2 air layered maples, separated last July, has white mold in the sphagnum Moss that I potted it in. I live in Northern California and haven't received rain in one month, and haven't watered in that time. I assume the mold is from excess moisture near the bottom of the pot. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the mold? Is this a problem?

What convinces you that it is something to worry about?
Is the sphagnum dry?
Maybe you could post a pic?

Yeah, a picture would be helpful. Are you saying your pot hasn't dried out in a month with no rain? And with the weather above freezing?

The Moss is still moist on the bottom half of the pot. temps lows 35-40 highs 50-65. Still trying to upload pictures, just won't work.

Sphagnum, when completely dead and spent, will break down and fungi will eat it.
Sphagnum has magical properties when it's alive and a couple months thereafter. But after that, it's like dead moss or dead leaves.

But most fungi feeding off of dead material usually don't attack live material; too much work when there's literally an already digesting gourmet around.
