Quick air layer question - I've done a few this year (for the first time), but several have only developed roots part way round the cut.
  • What can I do to get radial roots on these existing layers (they are already separated)? Will I need to re-layer next year?
  • What can I do to encourage radial rooting next time?
Thanks.

One often overlooked detail is that air layers on a branch growing laterally are likely to develop roots only on the low side. You'll get better radial root development air layering trunks or branches growing more vertically.

This is a really interesting detail that rarely gets discussed. It makes perfect sense to me that hormones would preferentially collect at the bottom, making lopsided rooting more likely. Thanks for sharing.
