Air layering a pyraicantha

I have a really old pyraicantha in my yard that I just cut back because it was to tall and was hitting the top of my roof
I would like to air layer one of the branches. the stem is about 1.5 die canI do it now or is it to late in
the season?

Now is about the prime time to do airlayer IMHO.
